A memory like a dream without a face, me about five, racing along the edge of a lake toward my cane pole, its bobber pulled under. A man running behind me raises me up and over a thorn-filled bush that blocks my path – I don’t remember arriving, or even if I caught the fish, only the hands on my ribs lifting me up as I ran.
