The Killer Bee

My dad took me to pick it up in an empty school parking lot, at night, like a drug deal. A bright yellow Dodge something, a box, with a rusted-out floor. Nothing but an AM radio. It became a magnet for jokes: a jar of urine left on the seat, a Christmas tree jammed, somehow, through the driver's window. For a long time after it caught fire, I kept the rearview mirror.
