River Teeth Conference Presentations Available Online

Around 80 nonfiction writers gathered at the Ashland University campus in Ashland, Ohio, May 29-31 for the 4th annual River Teeth Nonfiction Conference.

Attendees enjoyed an opening night reading by Jerald Walker, author of Street Shadows: A Memoir of Race, Rebellion, and Redemption, recipient of the 2011 PEN New England/L.L. Winship Award for Nonfiction and named a Best Memoir of the Year by Kirkus Reviews.

On Saturday evening Cheryl Strayed thrilled the audience by reading from a new work in progress, as well as passages from her New York Times bestseller Tiny Beautiful Things. Cheryl also shared the amazing story of her first writing job and, in her Sunday morning craft talks, delved into the process and craft of writing, focusing on a selection of her #1 NYT bestseller Wild.

Saturday and Sunday featured a full morning and afternoon of craft seminars with guest speakers Jill Christman, Stephen Church, Steven Harvey, Kate Hopper, Sonya Huber, Joe Mackall, Ana Maria Spagna, Leila Phillip, Ginny Taylor, and Sarah M. Wells, presenting on a wide range of topics.

All presentations were recorded and may be viewed on the River Teeth Conference Archives site, along with presentations from past years.

Tentative dates for next year’s conference are June 3-5.
